    Ytheband is the story of two brothers who thought, at an early age, of converting the family basement into a home studio. And keeping in mind that success doesn’t come to you, you go to it, they ended up sharing their enthusiasm for music with natural born singer Julian, who would, years later, complete the trio.

    Although each member of the band started out on his own path, their artistic visions have now merged, their common goal being to conquer the hearts of listeners at home and abroad.

    Partly self-taught, the musicians of ytheband essentially have the same musical influences: Acadian Daniel Lanois’ modern folk and the cinematic atmospheres of Angelo Badalamenti (best known for scoring David Lynch’s feature films) are invaluable references. The group’s attraction to film soundtracks did not come about by chance. The boys have nurtured a love of the art through the creation of several soundtracks for both local features and short films.





    The band is now releasing its debut album What City Does To People, a record on which cinematic pop and vocal genre have been brought to the foreground to create a very distinctive sound palette. Many other musical avenues have been explored: from art rock to alternative pop, from folk to ambient. Nevertheless, their work remains intriguing and challenging, no matter what the genre is. One could easily note their collaboration with musical poet and author Michel Robidoux (from the successful Montreal-based theatre company Les Deux Mondes) who has lent his voice to one track on the album.

    Always searching for those elusive moments in music, ytheband’s creative inspirations are drawn from UK sources as well as from North American influences. They brilliantly extract the best of both worlds. Granted, for some people they may seem to be merely a new entity on the scene, but they will surely win us all over. ytheband, “Why this band?” some might wonder, The enigma ought to be solved soon enough…
