The Short & Curlies consists of two York University music students, Michael Tobin and Zachary Bines. The story goes that the two were playing with an orchestra in London for an AIDS benefit - Tobin on the tenor sax and Bines on the electric guitar. Between rehearsals they would go to a nearby park and play each other their original tunes. The guys quickly realized that their songs were similar to each other, but unusually different form everything else. Tobin and Bines put their minds together to create what are now fondly known as "Curly-Tales", their own exciting narrative songs.
Much of The Short & Curlies' success can be attributed to their credo, "No Boundaries, No Limits." They write diverse stories, which results in incorporating many different musical styles, which has produced a gigantic fan base. To some critics' surprise, The Short & Curlies get away with juxtaposing certain genres that have never gone hand-in-hand before.
Their live shows have become the most talked-about events on college and university campuses from coast to coast. You never know whats going to happen at a live show; whether you are treated to pizza handed out by the band, observing a showcase of Hooter's girls dancing on stage, or hearing the latest Blue Grass rendition of Rage Against the Machine. These shows are TOO GOOD to miss!
