TOP STORIES
In September 2007, the four original members of the group – Emily Smith on lead vocals, Nick Hinton and Christian deBrigard on guitars and Zack Downes on drums – made a collective decision to move to Los Angeles. Hinton and deBrigard had recently graduated from the Park School of Communications at Ithaca College with degrees in Audio Production and Video Production, respectively, Smith was less than pleased with her job, and Downes was preparing to begin his senior year by spending a semester taking classes and an internship in Los Angeles - so the idea to make the move turned very quickly and easily into action.
Throughout the fall of 2007, the band played a slew of shows at such staple Hollywood venues as the Cat Club, B.B Kings Blues Club, the Whisky-a-gogo, and the Gig, honing their live performance and seeing the beginnings of a solid SoCal fan base. During this time, the band also had the privilege of working with acclaimed performer and producer Tim Miner, formerly of Motown Records, to record a demo CD, which was released in the winter of 2008. The three-track CD includes the fan favorite “Product Of…” as well as the driving title track “Put Your Money Down.” Songs from the CD can be found on myspace, reverbnation, facebook, and various other internet outlets.
Now into their second year playing music as Amplication, the band continues to perform on a near-weekly basis around the greater Los Angeles area, promoting their new recordings and building their ever-expanding fan base. With the recent addition of bass-guitarist Chris Reed, Amplication is now more cohesive and complete-sounding than ever. The sky is the limit as far as these five young hopefuls are concerned, so don’t be surprised if you hear from them again sometime soon.
