7 questions to Avacia (Finland) before the World Finals

"It comes from the heart! That's all that really matters."

    1) You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2018/2019. What made you decide to take part in it?

It all happened very quickly. Our drummer had enrolled us to the contest and forgot about it, until in December Aki (part of the Emergenza crew) sent us a message saying ''Hey you wanted to participate, so are you up for it?'' - we thought why not. We get to play (if we are lucky) many shows so why wouldn't we participate. We didn't really care for the contest value of it until we made it to the finals in Turku, and we thought that okay now it's getting a bit more serious.

    2) As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?

It's very surreal to be honest. We have toured abroad before, but it's always as exciting as it was for the first time. I think neither of us can actually realize how far we've come on this contest. A small band singing in Finnish made it this far on a worldwide contest? Absolutely surreal. We truly hope that we've made Finland proud and especially our small hometown Turku!

    3) What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?

I personally think there's two - when we won the final in Turku and when we won in Helsinki. Turku was a beautiful day because everyone knew each other, and we're all friends. Like actually friends. And to see your friends cheering you on even though they were not that lucky that day, it's very heart warming. Love was in the air!

Helsinki was just an amazing experience because of the location. Nosturi is just a legendary place and we were so happy to play there before they tear it down. And it was also our first show in the capital! ðŸ˜‰

    4) What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?

Our bands name comes from the song by Iron Maiden called ''22 Acacia Avenue''. When you change the first two syllables from the two words, you get Avacia Acenue. We thought Avacia just sounds different and cool!

    5) Can you tell us a funny story or anecdote about your experience on stage? And one which happened in backstage or during the preparation of a show?

I have a personal one. We were playing in Poland at the time, and there was a drunken maniac in front of the stage (we were playing on the floor) with a bunch of German friends watching our show too. He was falling all around on the stage and he even tried to slap our bassist Topi I think and after every song he was the happiest man alive. During one of the songs he fell on my mic stand and it hit directly on my mouth while I was singing. I was lucky to not have my teeth out in the open, that would have been bad! Then our German friends escorted him out! ðŸ˜€ It was a great tour all in all, such fun stories which we'll keep for later!

This is probably not the funniest story but still an amazing backstage story. As in EPIC. We played Russia, St. Petersburg last midsummer, and before the show we had to walk through the city center to get to the venue, and before that we got in to this USSR aged old school building that had a bunch of other artists in too. Somebody came to pick us up and we walked behind the stage and we thought somebody was bombing the city, because of these enormous fireworks that was launched during the festival. We got in the backstage of this massive stage (and by massive, I mean seriously massive), and we couldn't go on the stage to have a look on how many people were in the audience. We had a 5-minute change over and when we first got on the stage we were greeted by 55 000 people. That was an experience I must say and one of the best shows we've EVER had!

    6) How would you describe your music ?

We tend to describe our music as just metal. We really do not know how to describe it in other words that it sounds like us ðŸ˜€ So we just tend to say we are a metal band. But most importantly it comes from the heart! That's all that really matters.

    7) What are your short to medium term plans after the Emergenza's world final?

We hope to release new music after the contest. We have some plans, but they are to be kept in secret ðŸ˜‰
