Children, parents and friends. Ten musicians on stage and a tremendous energy. Rock, pop, a mesmerizing singer... this is all the tenor sax's fault! If he hadn't given his father back the desire to perform, if the brother, sister and mother hadn't embarked, if friends hadn't decided to join them, if, if... they hadn't created L’Araignée Au Plafond, the most festive intergenerational band of all time ! They have been touring all over France since 2012 with a special sense of humor and a sharp force. This extended family, which has adopted a few additional members along the way, makes the crowds jump (sorry, dance) thanks to powerful covers and its own songs. No wonder, they are real pros, experienced musicians despite their young age, led by Bob, the father, an old rocker. The secret of this group : a charismatic and talented singer, songs where each instrument has its place, from clarinet to keyboards, including percussion, while the good old trio guitar / bass / drums is always bubbling. You're a rocker or you're not, right? Do you think these spiders are totally crazy ? You're totally right. But in the end, is this not the case in all families?
1) You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2018/2019. What made you decide to take part in it?
YOU invited us and it was one of the best decisions you made for us !
2) As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?
We’re so excited since The Offspring is part of the festival ! Also it’s amazing cause when we gathered in 2015 we never thought we would do something this huge !! Our fans made it all happen !!
3) What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?
Before we played in the Bataclan, we would say that the simple fact that we, as a provincial band, would play in Paris was awesome and incredible ! The fact that our team fans followed us to the french capital city was something unrealistic, and to share this all together was a true dream ! Emergenza gave us the chance to play our own songs in such amazing places and this made our year !
4) What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?
« L’araignée au plafond » comes from a french phrase which means being crazy at some point. When we found this name, we were’nt 100% sure that would match with everyone’s behaviour in our band, but one week later, after we all individually proved we were absolutely crazy, we thought it was perfect.
5) Can you tell us a funny story or anecdote about your experience on stage? And one which happened in backstage or during the preparation of a show ?
We would say nothing funny happened, or in fact everything is always pure fun when we are together. Since we are 10 musicians, you probably can tell it is a real nightmare for others to channel these guys. We always find a way to make crazy things happen. But if we had to tell you about one of our most surprising moments, we would speak about the time we would get the results of the Emergenza national finals, cause every single one of our friends were litteraly crying, even the strongest ones.
6) How would you describe your music ?
That’s a funny question, cause we had to define our music at multiple occasions, like for festivals or some other events, and we would always say we’re doing rock’n’roll cause it’s what we are made of and where we come from, but musically speaking we had to invent a category cause we didn’t find any satisfying. Sooooo, we chose to call us a brasspunk band, since we are doing punk songs with saxophones and a New-Orleans energy.
7) What are your short to medium term plans after the Emergenza's world final?
We are definitely willing to continue writing our own songs, cause it feels more natural and authentic. Plus, we were so grateful to the audience for being so receptive to our music. And actually that’s why we always end up a show with ‘crew song’ ever since. It is a way to thank all of the people who are following us since the very beginning, and this is the main reason why we’re doing what we’re doing.
