1) You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2017/2018. What made you decide to take part in it?
Our main reason to join the contest was to meet people and learn from them.Socializing, networking, learning. From the beginning on we had such fascinating and enriching encounters. Every single band had its own style, its own way of making music. And the prizes are quite inviting as well!
2) As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?
We know our love is crime, but we set ourselfes to fire“ - from our song „On My Way“ We can hardly wait to play.
3) What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?
We organized a fan bus for the Bayern-Finals in Munich. That moment when all our friends from Augsburg entered the area. Mike stopped singing on stage when the crowd was louder than him singing along for us. That was just beautiful and moving.
4) What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?
Art in Crime actually is a reduction of the saying „pARTner in Crime“. Because we see ourselfes as partners in everything we do.
5) If you had to choose a famous song that represents your band...which one would it be?
Come Together - The Beatles.
6) Can you tell us a funny story or anecdote about your experience on stage? And one which happened in backstage or during the preparation of a show?
As we played in the Bayern-Finals In Munich (Backstage) there was a phantastic band named „Paranoias Paradise“ playing right before us. We got to know the guys already one round before and became friends with them. They asked us to flood the crowd with self made dollar-bills during their show. Every single banknote got a bandmembers’ face on it. So Noel and Felix went upstairs and threw the dollars from the balustrade into the crowd, when the band started their last song. The people went completely wild over it. That was so much fun.
7) How would you describe your music?
Artistic. harmonizing. Rather soft than hard. With a lot of influences coming from blues, jazz and even classical music.
8) Before you go on stage, do you have a ritual or a good luck charm that goes everywhere with you?
We love to play with carpets on the stagefloor. Felix needs to give his nose a blow. Noel needs to fix his hair..
9) What is your dream gig?
Art in Crime acoustic night at Paramount Theatre, Seattle
10) What can audiences expect from one of your live performances?
A lot of atmosphere. Deep feelings.
11) If you could invite a band or an artist at your party, dead or alive, who would it be?
J.S. Bach
12) What are your short to medium term plans after the international final?
We want to complete our first album. We already recorded 5 tracks but there’s still plenty of work left. As we’ll be done with the recording we’ll imediately plan the release.
13) What inspires you when you are composing (musical inspirations or others) ?
As we already said, everyone of us got a very specific background. Our Backline Phillip and Mock, they do a lot of jazz. Noel is our guitar hero, Mike used to do a lot of busking and Felix is a composer for classical music. There are many different ideas in the room, when we rehearse. So everyone gets his own inspiration and we just combine it when we are together.
14) What question did I forget?
You could have asked, if we are awefully excited about the gig. Yes we are.
15) Why do you think you deserve to win the 2018 Festival edition?
Every Band, which made it that far would deserve to win this. But thats not the point. It’s all about making music together and meeting people. Getting in touch. Reaching new frontiers. We are very thankful for being part of all of this so far. Eric Bibb said it best, when he sung: „Learn from everyone, that’s what life is for.“.
