The quintette from St. Gallen excites the audience with rousing and atmospheric Irish Rock. Three voices, two guitars, a mandolin, an accordion, a voilin, a bass and a tambourine: Less is sometimes still more after all. The creative guys connect their own compositions with headstrong interpretations of Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys or Mumford & Sons. When they go off, no t-shirt is staying dry and no leg is standing still.
1) You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2017/2018. What made you decide to take part in it?
By the time we decided to join the Contest, we've been looking for the opportunity to play some gigs. And of corse we like the feeling to be inside of a competition. It's completely different to a common gig.
2) As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?
We are very proud of what we achieved until now and we're very excited about what’s coming towards us in the world-finals.
3) What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?
We loved to play the Bierhübel in Bern. It’s such a great venue and the crowd went realy crazy about us. We hope to play there once again in the near future.
4) What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?
Saint City is like an underground Name for our Hometown St. Gallen wich came up with the Hip Hop Scene in Eastern Switzerland. We just like the sound of it and of corse we like the underground scene. The last part “Orchestra” is because we play instruments that usually belong to a classic orchestra.
5) If you had to choose a famous song that represents your band...which one would it be?
It may sound crazy but it’s definitely "Blitzkrieg Bop" from the Ramones. We’re an accoustic irish punkrock-band.
6) Can you tell us a funny story or anecdote about your experience on stage? And one which happened in backstage or during the preparation of a show ?
There’s just one thing that comes to my mind, the Stageinvasion just 2 Weeks ago on an openair festival in switzerland. We came up with a new stage design. We built two bars that we put on the back of the stage. During the gig we usually choose 5-6 People who can join us on stage to drink some beer at this bar.
At this particularly gig we did chose 5 people but all of a sudden, the hole crowd (about 6000 PAX) tried to get on the stage. At this very moment, the security had a problem at the entrance of the festival, I think they had a fight between some guests, so no one was there to stop the crowd. At the end, we had about 50-60 People on stage who wanted to drink some beer with us. That was pretty crazy.
7) How would you describe your music ?
It’s a punkrock version of an irish folk style.
8) Before you go on stage, do you have a ritual or a good luck charm that goes everywhere with you?
Well, we need a lot of beer and we stay together and count 1,2,3 SAINTS!
9) What is your dream gig?
Coachella or Lollapalooza.
10) What can audiences expect from one of your live performances?
So much power that it will blow their heads off! We always interact with the audiance, so it will be a lot of fun for everyone!
11) If you could invite a band or an artist at your party, dead or alive, who would it be?
Dead or half Dead: The Ramones, The Clash, Sex Pistols.
Alive: The Interrupters.
12) What are your short to medium term plans after the international final?
To play gigs all over Europe.
13) What inspires you when you are composing (musical inspirations or others)?
My everyday Life. When you live your life as aware as possible, it gives you so much ideas and inspiration.
14) What question did I forget?
The question you forgot! (laugh)
15) Why do you think you deserve to win the 2018 Festival edition?
Because we rock the crowd and the stage so fucking hard that we’ll faint at the end!
