1) You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2017/2018. What made you decide to take part in it?
We not only want to share our music within our country but also to various countries across the world. We participated in Emergenza Festival because it is a good opportunity for our band to share our music to people all across the world. Moreover, we write our lyrics in English as well and we think it will be so much fun!
2) As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?
We are excited to be able to listen to bands across the world live which we only listened through the media. We are prepared to play our own music, representing our country, Korea, and we are ready to enjoy the stage than any other band!
3) What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?
When Nerd Connection came in first place in the Korean Emergenza Final stage is the most memorable moment throughout our Emergenza experience. In addition, because we invited our family and friends, it was so much meaningful to us.
4) What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?
We, the four members of Nerd Connection, have an image of “nerd.” However, we specifically highlighted the positive aspects of the image “nerd.” Passionate people doing the things they love the most is the true meaning of our name, “Nerd Connection.”
5) If you had to choose a famous song that represents your band...which one would it be?
It is very difficult to choose only 1 song because all of our songs are all good J haha. However, it we had to choose just 1, it would be “Hymn of the Birds.” The song represents us when it comes to our attitude in music creation.
6) Can you tell us a funny story or anecdote about your experience on stage? And one which happened in backstage or during the preparation of a show?
Yeongju, our vocalist and acoustic guitarist, sometimes gets too emotional and too absorbed by his vocal talents that he makes a mistake. After singing the 1st chorus of our song “Hymn of the Birds” brilliantly, he admires himself so much that he makes a chord mistake in the interlude that follows the chorus. The funny thing is that the acoustic part is really simple, 2 chord progression... and he strongly argues that it wasn’t him who made the mistake when even the audience can easily find who made the mistake.
7) How would you describe your music?
We identify our music with the word 'sympathy'. We try to derive sympathy from our listeners. We would also like to communicate with our listeners on an emotional level. We make our music through various emotions and situations.
8) Before you go on stage, do you have a ritual or a good luck charm that goes everywhere with you?
During our Emergenza Experience, from the pre-elimiary stage up to the finals in Korea, our band members all stretch one arm out to the center and shout “Victory! Fighting!” Moreover, Mr. Hong, the person-in-charge of Emergenza Korea, joins us in this ritual and shouts with us too. We came in first place every round thanks to this specific ritual.
9) What is your dream gig?
Our dream gig is to perform in very unique places. Pink Floyd had performed in Pompeii. Similarly, we would like to perform near the pyramids, or at the colosseum in Turkey. We would like to participate in big concerts and charity concerts as well! Our ultimate dream gig is however, performing our own music with the crowd chanting our name and singing along to our songs!
10) What can audiences expect from one of your live performances?
If the audience expected a really outstanding energy, a bombing performance from us, they might be a little disappointed. However, Nerd Connection knows how to touch the hearts of the audience. Just like how other famous bands influenced and touched us, we will indeed and surely touch the hearts of our audience. To whoever who wants empathy and sympathy, who wants to communicate emotionally, our performance is the exact medium.
11) If you could invite a band or an artist at your party, dead or alive, who would it be?
All of our band members are fans of Coldplay. We will bring Coldplay to the party and make them perform until the party ends.
12) What are your short to medium term plans after the international final?
If we do win at the Emergenza International Final Festival, with the provided benefits from Emergenza, we will continue to pursue music further and more professionally. If we do not win, we will regularly perform in local clubs in our country. Whatever the results maybe, we will continue to strive to do the music!
13) What inspires you when you are composing (musical inspirations or others) ?
Basically people around us inspire us. The people themselves, the relationship between the people, the words from people, the time spent with people, the space spent with people, the incidents and happenings involving the people around us all inspire our music and are an important factor when it comes to music creation.
14) What question did I forget?
You forgot to ask us this question. “Do you think Nerd Connection could win the finals?” And our answer is: “Most definitely.”
15) Why do you think you deserve to win the 2018 Festival edition?
Nerd Connection’s songs, our very own songs contain our efforts. And because our efforts are so beautiful and amazing, we think we could win the finals. Of course, it is up to the judges and the audience to decide
