    Interview with Russian winners MASSFACE

"We dream of playing the first rock gig on Mars!"

    1) You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2017/2018. What made you decide to take part in it?
Our debut album “Massface” has been released in October 2017 and we’ve been searching for ways to spread the word about it. One of the main points was that participation in Emergenza can help us to broadcast our music to a wider audience. And it worked! Thank you for this opportunity! Right now we have a unique chance to play the first gig in Europe and to reach out to the people outside of our country. It’s amazing!

    2) As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?

To say we were excited would be a colossal understatement. We couldn’t imagine that we can go so far in this journey.

    3) What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?
Every single live performance we did throughout the festival, as well as every minute of backstage.

    4) What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?
It’s about something that has huge amount of facets and faces inside of it. By this non-existing word we wanted to represent our approach to music. We love different genres and sub-genres of rock music as much as electronic music and we try not to be limited to just one of them.

    5) If you had to choose a famous song that represents your band...which one would it be?
    Shadows.

    6) Can you tell us a funny story or anecdote about your experience on stage? And one which happened in backstage or during the preparation of a show?
Actually, we have one. During the award ceremony, our frontman Oleg hugged one of our guitar players Ivan so hard that Ivan ended up with a crack in his rib.

    7) How would you describe your music?
    Smooth.

    8) Before you go on stage, do you have a ritual or a good luck charm that goes everywhere with you?
    Yes, we hug all together!

    9) What is your dream gig?
    First rock gig on Mars.

    10) What can audiences expect from one of your live performances?
Maybe this is trivial, but we believe during the show we’re sharing the energy and magic of our music with the audience. Meantime the audience sending their energy back to us. With such kind of synergy, together we can create something going far beyond our imagination.

    11) If you could invite a band or an artist at your party, dead or alive, who would it be?
We are not sure about one artist. There are lots of great ones out there. Maybe Rage Against the Machine, Deftones, Linkin Park, Tool, Tesseract, Bring Me The Horizon etc. Those guys definitely know how to have fun and to make every party insane and unforgettable.

    12) What are your short to medium term plans after the international final?
We have a lot of plans. First of all, we are planning to record some new material. Also, we are going to shoot a new music video which should be released in the nearest future.

    13) What inspires you when you are composing (musical inspirations or others)?
    We are inspired by life.

    14) What question did I forget?
“Am I alive or it’s only memories?”

    15) Why do you think you deserve to win the 2018 Festival edition?
We didn’t think about it, really. We just want to feel all the beauty of this moment, the moment of being a part of great international music event. It is an epic adventure and it may be a bright page in a book of our memory.
