Fugere.Poirier
It's pure poetry. If Arthur Rimbaud and Verlaine are not enough, then this band will do it. In these cases it's inevitable; music gets you emotional and they are proof of that. Emotions run deep here, unapologetic and simply beautiful. Imagine two singers with ukulele and acoustic guitars. Imagine a man and a woman. Imagine the voices of David Sylvian and Kate bush singing together. This is FUGERE POIRIER. They have experience, we can tell. They have been around the block a few times, but this is one of the few groups I would actually be happy to pay to see even if I didn't know them. She stands on stage with a diva like aura. It fits perfectly with the energy they are trying to convey. This group has nothing to do with pop, with the Biebers of the world and that's why we actually fall in love with them. Instantly. This group went through their show entertaining a large crowd and convinced all of us with such simplicity. We are now part of a converted group of people that will promote Fugere.Poirier with heartfelt conviction . Alleluja!
Clarity
Hip Hop can be hit and miss. In this case we had a hit. Try and imagine a bad boy with a good soul, mix some pop with rap. The rhythm and the melody. That's the combination. That's CLARITY. You can see the talent here but you get the feel that the ideas are there too. Distinctive and well assembled .I wish there was band like this for every Émergenza gig. They are proof that to entertain, you don't have to have an attitude or think you're the coolest band around. They do their job and do it perfectly with no airs and graces. Proof of how entertaining they are is the fact that a bunch of 40 year olds that came to see the previous band were moving and shaking to their beats. Considering this band had Zero fans to see them it is proof that talent always shines through and that you can win new fans on the night. The finale was a riot: generations of people from guys in their 20's to middle aged folks dancing while sipping wine. A sight for sore eyes.
Pasko Solo & The Hunters
Please go and get those fuckers that constantly say that rock and roll is dead. Go and get them moaners. Tell them it's not. We have proof that it's alive and well here. PASKO SOLO & THE HUNTERS are a solid trio with so much electricity running through their instruments that you could light half of Canada and still have some left over to electricute those stupid people who cosntantly moan about rock and its last days. This is 1970's school of rock. This is pure adrenalin and effortless soul. This guy on vocals with a cowboy hat and long curls could show those pretentious southern rockers that this is the way you really play it. This band would crap all over the bar bands of Texas, Tennessee and other southern states where they claim it's "happening all here". Come up here in the snow and let these guitars melt your hearts........and to all the moaners out there: Stop saying rock and roll is dead!
Ketchup Stain
Young, powerful and all round fun. They have so much courage that they could set up a stall at the markets and sell it by the pound. Perhaps they are technically weak but that's not important in this case. These 3 young guys close the evening's event with a set of aggressive tunes that has the younger lads in the audience go mad with joy. You've got it all here, you have the Seattle sound/attitude, you have the energy but most of all it's a no bullshit attitude. The singer is good and has an interesting voice perhaps he could just play and not talk that much because people just want to feed off the energy. All in all this was a great way to close off the evening. People were left with enough energy to bring a smile to their faces. Well done boys.
And so the evening's music offering was over. All we have now is the cheering and the applause. The bands chosen by the public are FUGERE POIRER, with their indie folk melodies, CLARITY, with their infectious Hip -Hop and KETCHUP STAIN with their fresh, young energetic rock. We will have the pleasure to see these bands play at CLUB SODA in the near future.
It was an enjoyable night where the musicians displayed their skills and gave their all to the crowd. Quebec musicians really do play their craft with their heart and soul. Well done. Simply beautiful.
