One of the more original musical appearances in a battle of the bands type event, Belfast Andi brings to the table a classic a Irish musical and stage performance. A well established artist in his own right, he has weekly recurring gigs at some of Montreal’s most famous Irish pubs. While this most certainly cements his notoriety on that scene, it seems that Andy is looking to take his act beyond the comfort of the Irish pub crowd to something a little more broad reaching.
To this end, Andi has recently enrolled his act in the Emergenza International Music Festival, for the opportunity of playing live at some top venues across the city. Andy’s music is sure to be a crowd pleaser during a concert like that of Emergrnza, where the performers and audience is varied. Music that has a classic, upbeat sound to it has a tendency of doing very well in this type of event. Andi has done an excellent job promoting his musical project, with many live shows behind him and many more lined up and an impressive amount of press coverage and reviews.
Andi and his musicians embody everything you would expect from this type of band, both on stage and as far as their music. His vocal is very strong and in some songs, such as Into the Mystic I had the impression of listening to a classic rock band with excellent songwriting and arrangements. It’s only when the instruments kick in so to speak, does the Irish folk come through. In other pieces however, like Star of the County Down ,it’s very present, from the instrumental intro, through the vocal and each note of the chorus. A very enjoyable set and the perfect excuse to get up and dance!
