Bringing to the table a genre of music that is seldom encountered on the up & coming local music scene, Frigid takes a risk and delights the fans. A mix of electronic music with some elements of pop and rock make this artist a very strong contender in any musical event. Having recently made some changes to the band’s line up and still somewhat in transition Frigid assures the fans that the music will keep on coming and in fact, a second album is due out in the near future.
Frigid is very good at keeping the fans informed and up to date on what’s what wit the band. Just a few scans of their band’s social media profiles let me know that the band’s make up has changed and DJ Frigid is, at least for now working on the project solo. For a project that has been around for over 10 years in various formation, Frigid has a lot to show, especially in terms of repertoire. On their MySpace profile alone, the band has 8 tunes. In order to launch this new version of Frigid, they have enrolled in the international showcase for up & coming bands, the Emergenza Music Festival.
Electronic music has had many resurgences over the last few decades and every artist who takes on the genre, puts their own twist on it. Frigid makes most use out of synths and other tools to create these sounds towards the start of each song. Intertwined with vocals, the songs have a powerful beat to them, though are not taken as far as your typical ‘dance’ music. The bass is not prominent enough to make that cross over, but the sounds that do make up the songs are very upbeat. Additionally the apparent use of various vocalists allow each song to have a unique quality and appeal. This contrast is apparent for instance between the pieces Werewolves & Peaches. Both strong electronic numbers, with very different lyrical and vocal content.
