A Montreal band who reaches out to their fans with lyrics and songs that are so close to home (i.e. Sherbrooke Street) is sure to be a hit on the local scene. To attest to this, is the fact that these guys have taken part, and done very well in a number of battle of the bands and band contests in the great city of Montreal. Having played a number of the city’s top venues they are no strangers to the live circuit and evidently put a lot of effort into each show. The light, funky blues sounds played by this band are a departure from a lot of the music one encounters on the scene, making them much more attractive musically.
With their own YouTube channel as well as profiles on all major band forums, Atacama’s online presence is impressive. Aside from accessible info, they’ve also got a 5 song EP, which is available to fans for free on soundcloud – the best place to have your music as it allows fans to share it and pass it on to their friends, thus helping expand their fanbase. In an effort to expand their audience even further, Atacama has enrolled in the Emergenza International Music festival. The event takes place in some of Montreal’s most coveted venues, which will give them an opportunity take on some of the finest stages.
Andrew’s Girlfriend is definitely one of my fav songs, mainly because of the awesome guitar intro. While it is in keeping with the band’s overall style, it gives the impression of something fresh and new and left me wondering what I could expect. By the time the singer’s deep voice enters the music, the stage is set for the unexpected. The very melodic sounds of this song are echoed in their other pieces, though the tempo varies, which keeps the listener on their toes. It seems like funky intros are this band’s MO, using different sounds each time, the first few notes of each song are most memorable.
