In 2008 four typical Montreal-area up & coming musicians came together to form a band which, over time, with some musical and ___ tweaking would become Pelican Hoax. They are described as an indie rock band, blended with a touch of British Rock, and some Icelandic and American influences. While this combination may sound strange, or hard to grasp, they have come to own this description and embody it their music and performance.
An EP from these guys came out in 2011, giving a fans an opportunity take home the music they enjoy live. And there was no shortage of those times… Pelican Hoax played their first public show in 2010 and have since then conquered a good portion of Montreal’s most well renowned live music venues. Continuing their tradition of hard work, persistent band promotion and keeping a full concert schedule, they band will be playing a show for Montreal’s edition of the Emergenza Music Festival in January.
A full length album available as of this year, and you can get a taste of what these guys are all about on their band website as well as via their profiles on all emerging band forums. The band members describe their music in terms of their influences which span across the world. After about a minute of listening to their songs I understood exactly what each of those alludes to and was totally taken by how they’ve managed to make it all come together. Electronic beats are a huge component of What if we all knew the truth, the singer’s vocal style says British rock all the way and in the song Blame God I distinctly heard sounds that I can only imagine stem from Icelandic origins. Very eclectic and captivating mix. A show not to be missed.
