In an 80’s kind of way this progressive metal band reaches their audience and plays music that is somewhat timeless. Established in 2007 and with a few line up changes over the years, Demise of the Crown have recently cemented a vocalist whose styles jives with what the band wants to convey with their music, songwriting and performance. They have since played several shows, including some at Montreal’s and Quebec City’s best known venues. The next logical step for this band is to try to expand their reach even further. They will be attempting to this in the new year by taking part in the Emergenza Music Festival – the largest international battle of the bands.
This five piece band deserves much praise for their promo efforts and hard work. Not only do they seem to have a constant stream of live shows, but their band has reached a popularity level of epic proportions for a local and arguably up & coming band – they have nearly 10,000 fans on their band’s Facebook page. It’s no surprise that they are able to play so many shows, and at such great venues, when they enjoy so much support from their fans. They’ve also got an EP which can be downloaded for free from their band website.
The music they play is very deserving of so much attention. The mix of progressive and hard rock that their songs embody is part of a successful formula tried and tested by the likes of Iron Maiden and other such bands. By taking this style and giving it their own twist, they have managed to turn it in to success. I am of the opinion that the singer’s vocal range is a huge part of the success of the music. In each song he is able to employ different sounds, from a deep whisper through an operic singing to some good ol’metal grunting. When accompanied by the rhythmic drum beats and interesting guitar riffs such as in Dead Empire Schemes, these guys are a force to be reckoned with.
