A band that came together somewhat by chance, united experienced and accomplished musicians and kept them together for years with the need to play music on a regular basis. There’s always something very special about a group of musicians who come together to compose, play and perform music simply out of the passion for the art. It’s almost like they do what comes naturally and by not ‘trying too hard’ their music sounds genuine and heartfelt. This is exactly the impression I got from the gents of Outta Time.
Featuring a mix of genres and styles spanning several decades, the music of Outta Time is soulful, sweet and melodic. The instrumental interludes and well worked, well timed and professionally executed. They are also very fitting considering the band’s influences and history. The song Rain captured my attention because of its jazz-y intro and as the instrumental continues, the jazz takes on a blues groove, which flows together very well.
The band has now taken a step to bring their music to a larger fan base and possibly expand their audience. They have signed up to take part in the Emergenza Festival – the international battle of the bands that has been showcasing live bands in Montreal for over ten years now. The opportunity for Outta Time to take part in the festival is just the right way to get their music to a new audience, and expand their horizons. The band has been known to play a few covers here and there and this, combined with the power for their original music could get them just the right push.
