Coming from various bands, with different experiences but with equal passion for the music they wanted to create, four young men came together in 2010 to form what is today Québec rock band Korum. Their styles and personalities jived instantly and over the course of just a few weeks they put together what would become a repertoire worthy of a live show in front of a wide audience. They had that opportunity just a few months after the formation of the band and blew their crowd away.
Korum has been a part of the Montreal local up & coming music scene for a few years now and have some important achievements to boast. They have ranked quite well in some well know international battle of the band events and hope to repeat that success when they take part in the first round of the Emergenza Festival this year. Having taken part in these events has allowed for Korum to build a solid fan base, as evidenced by their band Facebook page where they have more then 1,000 fans! This will also translate well to concerts, since they’ve got a good pool to draw from for audience.
The self-proclaimed blues/funk/rock band has a few qualities which in my eyes set them aside from other emerging bands. First, they sing in their native language French. This is not super common and every time I happen upon a band singing in French I’m impressed. The type of music they play matches the French lyrics perfectly and mirrors what many popular local artist have done – successfully – in the past. Secondly, their music has more power then blues bands usually exude. This was particularly evident in the intro to La Nuit Des Voleurs and in the videos for their songs. They are very skilled at brining a high level of energy to their music, their set and the audience watching.
