The soft, slow and well-mastered rock of Plastic Talk is quite a classic sound. In a style somewhat reminiscent of the Cure and other bands of that era, these guys’ music and songwriting captures the attention and hearts of their audience. One of the 14 finalist of Montreal’s Emergenza final at L’Olympia, these up & coming musicians certainly earn their worth.
I particularly enjoyed how each instrument can be heard loud and clear in their songs, almost like it has its own moment in the spotlight. In Soft, this was particularly apparent and coupled with a vocal that picks up just where the melodies leave off, the pieces is very soundly structured. A strange dichotomy happens with this song – it’s melancholy yet upbeat – a quality I found quite captivating.
These guys do very well at a live music venue, where you can not only hear their music but also partake in the energy on and off stage. I would expect to see them performing somewhere in a European live music festival, perhaps outdoors, surrounded by other fine artists such as themselves, working towards the same goal.
