GOODNIGHT, TORONTO. GOODNIGHT
Parallel 12 took the stage to a cheering audience to bring to start the final proceedings at the Opera House Saturday night. Once again sans singer they play through some ambitious numbers and instrumentally inspired the crowd.
Second up were the boys from west of Toronto Antigonie were inspired in their own way and played most of the tracks off of their newly pressed cd and brought out some fetching swag for the audience as well.
Boochika ran through a quick set of their standards with a more raw power-punk-pop-alternative culmination this time around.
Home in 8 days stripped of the t-shirts and brought home their punk-pop set bare-chested for the final evening, one of their stronger showings I might add. They also scored the prize for best vocalist of the night.
Organic Funk played rhythm and funk and turned up the heat and the level of competition with their time on stage.
The volume and aggressiveness of the tunes quickly turned and it was Aversion laying down the law of metal upon thee for the third Emergenza show of their season. High Voltage had a busy day Saturday playing the first of the two shows for the glamorous boys in the early afternoon and then turning it around for another energetic rock show on the Opera House stage in the evening. For their efforts they were awarded best guitarist of the night.
The Shady J’s spilled water on the stage and their guts to the audience, in one of their best and most sweaty shows to date. This was not only a rock show but also an experience while they were on the stage.
Now what can you say about The Doug Trucker Band? They make people want to have a good time. Assuredly they all truly did as the boy’s rock stomped all over the stage slid in beer and put on a generally well-rounded rock show. Say that 10 times fast “well rounded rock show”.
Agrressor our Ottawa guests were outnumbered by Toronto bands and possibly outscored as well. That didn’t prevent them from making a great effort to entertain as only Bob and the boys do, in pure metal style.
Fidget is not for everyone, that’s saying that they are not for anyone who doesn’t like to have a good time. Pop songs for the masses and an all female cast make them easy to watch as well.
Brothers from Different Mothers funktified, rose up and saluted the audience with their set of hip-hop numbers. They will represent Ontario in the National final June 30th in Montreal.
Negative Attraction had a long day leading up to their midnight set time but didn’t disappoint a full house with their strong rock set, Paul’s voice seems to have recovered from last times rockiness.
Liar and a Thief played one of the most aggressive shows one could hope for and it was impressive as hell. A line up thick enough to prop up that troubled table leg at the restaurant or enjoyable enough to have enjoyed 4 times in the past 8 months who have all grown as musicians and people and all have new things in store for the year to come.
