For nearly three years, this Arizona based trio has always stayed true to their music.
“We don’t play what’s trendy or popular,” lead singer and guitarist Brad Reese states. “We play how we want; and it comes from our hearts.”
“We always get excited, but nervous at the same time when we play new shows,” adds drummer Alan Lopez. “Our music is usually different from other local bands, so we never know how the crowd will react. In the end, we always receive the respect and kudos from the bands we play with, and the fans we play for.”
Burnin Phoenix’ new demo, released early September, is a milestone marking a significant point in their development.
“It’s a lot better than our first recordings. We’ve matured and grown in our sound since then. I’m extremely proud of it,” states bassist Larry McClure.
“I feel the demo takes a little bit of all of us, and puts it into a sound,” adds guitarist Brad Reese.
The raw energy and expressive guitar counterparts of “Twisted,” and “Sugar Coated,” combines’ alternative and rock. The second track “Gone” shows the bands more versatile side.
“Each song has its own meaning to us,” Says Brad. “We write them for a reason, but anybody can interpret them how they want. That’s the beauty of music.”
Playing a few small venues, the band realized their potential, but wasn’t complete until drummer Alan Lopez joined the group in 2003. They had known Alan for awhile as a good friend, so when things didn’t work out with the previous drummer, they quickly gave Alan a nudge into the mix.
While most of them work during the day, they seem to find the time to light up the local stages on the weekends and tour over the summer. The groups live performances are eye-popping and jaw dropping. With Larry creating funky smooth bass lines, Brad singing words of the song into the microphone, and Alan never missing a beat, they try their hardest to put on the best show they can. They’re catchy and emotional vocals, slamming bass lines, and aggressive drumbeats, compliment each other at every note. Each aspect of their rock sound equates to a band that is Burnin Phoenix.
