The idea of Mama Cesta began when the Acuña brothers, Dubbie, Victor, and Richie, decided to leave their former project by the name of Acid Love to embark on a different musical direction. With songs typically written in English, the band tended to be criticized for its supposedly controversial name. The word ‘acid’, meaning sour in Spanish, was being interpreted as a reference to drug addiction when put into context with the word Love. Due to this misconception, the band searched for a new look and headed towards a new direction.
Peru, Mexico, and Trinidad & Tobago are the countries Mama Cesta can call their distant homes. This has been an important factor for the band since it allows each musician to aggregate a unique sound to the whole by mixing a variety of traditions and cultures into their music.
