TOP STORIES
Silent Auction is ELECTRONIC SOUL MUSIC (E.S.M.)

Originally formed in 1997 in Rochester, NY by Jason Barbero and Jason Rowe, Silent Auction began as a dark industrial project derived from grinding noises, intense rhythm programming, and severely digital inspired pieces. In late 2000 Silent Auction began to break away from the industrial noise scene and moved towards experimental darkwave and synthpop. But it wasn‘t until 2002 that Silent Auction realized their true musical direction. Jace Luce joined the group in 2001 as bassist and additional vocals. Chaotic life changes, coupled with new influences and some alterations to the group lineup steered the Silent Auction sound towards the danceable synthpop and futurepop styles over the next two years. By 2003 Silent Auction had found their sound and had also added Theresa Snyder to the outfit. Though their style was clearly still maturing they had finally crossed over to what is now referred to as electronica, synthpop and futurepop. In late 2004 Jace Luce departed from the band to concentrate on his solo project.

Inspired by bands such as VNV Nation, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Orbital, and many others, Silent Auction has managed to maintain its own unique blend of emotion, conviction, hardship and romance through its music. Silent Auction has a unique method of collaboration. The three individual members spend countless hours working on their solo projects. The music created under Silent Auction are tracks that are created by one member, then passed on to the others for their input until the sound is right for the group. During a live show they will often perform a mix of finished solo work and selected songs from Silent Auction’s releases. The band has maintained a weekly rotation at the local gothic/synthpop nightclub, Vertex [www.vertexclub.com] and has recently landed a weekly spot on WITR’s radio broadcast show “Robots in the Skies” [www.robotsintheskies.com]. Their song “Red Light” has appeared on the “Awareness” compilation CD (released by Cyber DJ, 2003). Silent Auction has performed at some of Rochester’s leading venues for the underground/electronic scene, including Waterstreet Music Hall, The Club at Waterstreet, Piranha, and Vertex.
