Imagine the edginess of 80’s bands Depeche Mode or The Cure mixed with the more overt darkness of Tool or Metallica—all wrapped up in an Italian rock package. That would be Linekurve, who magically twists these influences together with Italian bands Diaframma and Litfiba into the songs on their latest five-song EP. The first single “Mani” off the debut, self-titled EP is a perfect example of the dark, sumptuous atmosphere Linekurve creates in their songs. The clean, cool guitar is put up against deep, warm vocals, layered over a dark, muddy ocean of sound. The dramatic tone the band explores in their vocals—“like me, ready to take flight, they go way up to come crashing down”—is only emphasized by the slow, drawn out piano parts and the screaming backing harmonies. The synth and percussion effects in songs like “Immobile” take the best parts of the 80’s and translate them into Italian rock. The EP Linekurve was recorded between 2012 and 2013 in the band’s home studio and mixed by Giuseppe De Michele at Potenza. You can purchase it in online vendors like iTunes and GooglePlay. The core lineup of the band has stayed the same since their formation back in 2011, aside from the addition of the current vocalist. Today Linekurve are: Cristian Pinto on bass, Simone Lorusso on guitar and keys, Cristian Di Luccio on percussion, and Giovanni Carbone on guitar and vocals. You’ll have your chance to see them perform the songs off the new album and more in at Mumble Rumble in Salerno for Emergenza Festival Italia. It will be a night to remember, so be sure to stay tuned to Emergenza.net for more details.
