Soulful Acoustic Indie Rock from Cause Perse

Debut EP from Padua band Cause Perse is very far from being a ‘lost cause’

The Cause Perse from Padua—a.k.a. Italian land of hard rock—are doing something totally different with their sound. Maybe that’s one of the reasons they call themselves Cause Perse or The Lost Causes. But, we’re hear to tell you that they are anything but lost causes. They incorporate relatively simplistic chord structures into their acoustic indie songs, but they bang them out with more passion and verve than 20 musicians, absolutely pouring their souls into their lyrics, which are often sad or bleak in tone. The singer has the ability to scrape the depths of the listener’s soul with his voice, ranging from a soft, angsty tone to an edgy growl, reminiscent of an Italian version of the songs on the soundtrack to Once. My guess is that the singer of Cause Perse has a lot in common with Glen Hansard in the film. Take their recently released debut EP for proof. The four-song Mangiafuoco (or Fire Eater) is a raucous acoustic ride from melancholy ballad to soulful tirade, always contrasted with the sweet, soulful tone of the lead guitar. Go check out the band’s Soundcloud page to hear songs like “E Gia Mattino” and title track “Mangiafuoco”. You’ll be glad you did. Or better yet, check out one of their live shows. You can take it from us, they rock. They just killed it on stage at The Factory in Padua for Emergenza Festival Italia, where they went head to head with other top notch bands from the area. Check out Emergenza.net news about the show.
