Party Music from Venetian band Daushasha

Daushasha mixes Balkin rhythms with folk punk to come up with a high energy mix that just makes you want to let loose

Before you press play on the new album by Venetian band Daushasha, grab a beer and get ready to let loose. The Mediterranean atmosphere on Canzoni dal Fosso (Songs from the Trench) will transform the blood pumping through your veins into red wine and get your body moving along to its Balkan folk punk rhythms in no time. The 11 songs on the album are all rearranged pieces by Italian folk singer songwriters Luigi Tenco, Fabrizio De Andrè and Piero Ciampi, but this is not your typical cover album. The band completely takes over the songs with their charismatic approach, transforming and making them their own. The result is something that harkens to the simplistic rural life of the Italian countryside, with a flair that only the much more worldly youth generation can offer. Check out their video for track four “Rajha”, which shows the band in full party action. They’re so good at fooling around, it’s no surprise they took their unique name from a lost-in-translation moment during one of their rehearsals—and not just any rehearsal—minutes before sending off posters to print for their concert opening up for the Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti. Their video for “La Campagna” sums up the dreamy, magical energy this band puts into each one of their songs. Canzoni dal Fosso was recorded at the Officine Underground di Montebelluna by Nicolò Gasparini and released in April 2013. Originally formed back in 2008, Daushasha slowly solidified their line up with the addition of the violin and accordion player. Today Daushasha is Federico Pavanetto on vocals, Francesco Casagrande on classic guitar, Lorenza Bano on violin, Serena Marazzato on electric guitar and vocals, Giorgia Bonetto on accordion, Simone Mattiello on bass, and Daniele Licini on drums. Daushasha has been stacking their schedules with live shows since 2012, hitting it big in a couple contests and even making it on the radio. Their just played their very first gig for Emergenza Festival Italia and got the votes to get to the semifinals. Check back in at Emergenza.net for more news about the band.
