‘Every Corner of the Earth’ by SkyBlue

SkyBlue speaks the universal language of music—which sounds a lot like prog rock—on their latest album 'Every Corner of the Earth'

The name SkyBlue sums up what this band is all about—that is, humanity’s search for greater meaning as illustrated by our universal wonder in gazing toward the heavens. They believe in music as a universal language, so it’s no surprise they take their influences from a wide range of styles, including classical music, latin, jazz, and dance, and are even known to cover world music. But their latest album Every Corner of the Earth definitely demonstrates how deep the band is steeped in progressive rock and new wave music. They describe themselves as a temporal anomaly, using the soundscape of the 80’s to counter their rather cerebral approach inspired by 70’s prog. They say they’re most indebted to artists like Genesis, Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel, and it’s obvious on the new album, which sounds like it could be a supplement to the soundtrack for a psychedelic space age movie like Blade Runner. Despite the powerful male vocals, tight synth sounds and electric drums, the album nonetheless achieves a sense of weightlessness. It was recorded at Musical Dream Studio by Luca Montagnani. SkyBlue are Massimo Iuliani on guitar and keys, Federico Celso on piano and synth, Alessio Gorgeri on bass, Simone Martini on drums, and Patrizio Pierattini on lead vocals. On top of their spectacular original songs, SkyBlue are known for their theatrical live show—just one more reason not to miss your next chance to see them, live in Emergenza Festival Italia. They already rocked the stage for the first round and are now gearing up for the semifinals at Viper Theatre in Florence. So stay tuned for more details on their upcoming gig.
