'Alla Fine del Mondo' with RedWine

Debut album 'Alla Fine del Mondo' is just the start for Turin folk rockers RedWine

After the group’s formation in 2010 RedWine take a sharp turn in the direction of Irish folk music, and it turns out to be the best move they’ve made so far. The rush of the fiddle now accompanies the folk rhythms that come out of the electric and acoustic guitars. When the lead guitarist buys an Epiphone Les Paul—called Red Wine—it’s decided. The group would be named after his new love. RedWine is composed of founding members Nicola De Stefano and Francesco Quesada on guitar and voice, and Lorenzo Pallante on guitar, joined by pianist Davide Molino, pianist-turned-bassist Stefano Benedetto, and drummer Riccardo Ribotta. And finally violinist Veronica Penna comes in to add the right ethnic touch to their sound. On the very date the Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world, the group went into the studio to lay down what would become their debut album Alla Fine del Mondo (At the End of the World). On song after song on the new album the band shows us their ability to arrange moving, even cinematic, pieces that pull the heartstrings of anyone who presses play. Moments when the songs soften to a mere spoken word accompanied by keys, like in “Vuote Certezze”, then race forward unapologetically into electric guitar riffing, demonstrate the dynamic chemistry this group has. The subdued style of the vocals is perfectly complimented by the shrill sound of the violin. Out of the ten songs on the album, all are originals except the cover of traditional Irish folk song “Tommy Peoples Reel”. The album was self-produced and recorded at Rabél Studio by Diego Zanetto. Currently RedWine balances live performances with song writing for a follow up album. They just brought the songs off Alla Fine del Mondo to life on stage at The Barrio in Turin for Emergenza Festival Italia. Stay tuned to Emergenza.net to find out if they've made it to the semifinals!
