    'Appointment' with Virgo…

Extremely provocative debut album 'Appointment' out now from Padua band Virgo

Virgo has been writing original music since as far back as 2008, when they went by the name Papataci, and have finally put together their original tunes together in a debut release. The patchwork of the band members' different musical backgrounds fuses together to create a sound that crosses over from modern pop rock, to post-rock and post-grunge, and yet always maintains a bluesy backbeat. Back in 2010 they won national acclaim when they won the Rock Targato Italia prize, which has proven to be huge in their musical career. The group went through a slight transition with a change in line-up, and now they are even more solid than before, continuing to explore their bluesy groove and provocative vocals of Daniele Perrini, the band’s two strongest points. The debut album L'appuntamento they like to say unfolds gradually into an atmosphere of pure expression. The album was entirely self-produced, which is unbelievable, considering the quality and attention to detail they were able to achieve. Each song proves to be a deep, soulful and provocative confrontation of with the self—each song is like a mirror to the self where you’re able to see through the cracks and inconsistencies. It’s rather dark in tone, but dramatic and uplifting at the same time. All lyrics are in Italian, but it’s worth a listen even to a non-Italian speaking crowd, based on the universality of the melodies and dynamics in the songs. Virgo hits the stage at The Factory in Padua for Emergenza Festival Italia in April. While you're waiting for them to go on, go check out the new album by Virgo on the band’s Soundcloud. You won’t regret it.
