The very recently formed duo from Milan, Tiger Panda Project, is wasting no time at all. In fact, they’re kicking in the door of the ambient electro scene in Milan with a brand new full-length album, just months after their formation in 2013. Tiger Panda Project is Claudius Malagoli on keyboard, synthesizer and vocals with Ilaria Casagrande on vocals. In order to come up with their charming male-female dynamic, Claudius sets his passion for synth sounds and programming—inspired by electro artists like Air, Beach House and Tangerine Dream—to Ilaria’s cool female vocals. Three of the 12 songs on the new album can be found on the band’s YouTube page, including “FORSE M'IMMAGINO”, where the band delves into a new wave vibe, incorporating 80’s synth sounds with Italian pop vocal lines, “THE LAST PLANET”, where the band gets super spacey in the most Flaming Lips way possible, and “THE LIGHT IN YOUR EYES”, the perfect example of how the band manages to maintain a poppy vibe despite their ambient feel. This one is super cinematic and recalls pop rock bands like Coldplay in the song’s melodic structure and lyrical content—“when the lights go down, your eyes will light up the world”. All songs were recorded at The Bronze rehearsal space in Muggio. The live show of Tiger Panda Project can get a bit headier, as they tend to incorporate long instrumental interludes—the perfect music for spacing out. They just played a spectacular gig at the Speakeasy in Milan for the eliminatory rounds. Stay tuned to Emergenza.net to find out if they've made it to the semi-finals. See you at the next show!
