On their 2013 release Fanale trusts their instincts from years of hard work and goes au natural. The result is an almost completely live recording, which captures the band’s natural dynamics and makes you psyched to see them play live. The six-song EP entitled Work in Progress is rooted in Italian pop rock, but includes the touch of pop punk like in the opening track “Breakdown” whose call and response on distorted rhythm and lead guitar, combined with the ironic tone in the lyrics, are characteristic of the genre. The songs are undeniably catchy, often with a melancholic tone contrasted by a bright, up beat rhythm section, but traces of the band’s early days—when they counted bands like Slayer among their influences—are apparent. Their earlier metal sound is just bursting at the seams of every guitar riff, but they manage to keep it under control. The album was recorded at band members’ studio DP-Sound Warehouse and released at the end of last year, with founding member Moreno Orlandi on guitar, Davide Porcelli on lead vocals and guitar, Giacomo Mosca on guitar, Gino Gallè on bass, and Samuele Costanzo on drums. They keep up a heavy live schedule, but in between live concerts, Fanale is always in the studio working on new material. Watch out for a new release later this year. And in the meantime, come and check them out live! Already making it to the finals of Festivals like Art&Rock, Rock Targato, and San Remo Rock, the guys in Fanale are serious contenders this year in Emergenza Festival Italy. They just made it to the semifinals in Milan, so stay tuned to Emergenza.net for more info.
