Soul Searching Tracks from I Locus Animæ

Milan band I Locus Animae unleashes their four-song debut EP full of black, soul searching tracks

On Halloween night back in 2012 I Locus Animæ went into the studio to record their debut EP at the Old Ones recording studio in Paruzzaro and came out with four original, spine tingling tracks along with the title for the EP: Ove il mio io Cadrà (Where my ego will fall). The bleak soundscape, gloomy synth sounds and double bass pedal that characterizes their sound on the new album will suck you in and bury itself deeply into your subconscious. The name of the band I Locus Animæ, comes from the Latin for place of the soul. According to them the place of the soul is a place, or a state, of the soul—it’s a look into our inner depths—it’s a place where worries disappear and where there’s only room for a gloomy kind of harmony and internal peace—a place that I Locus Animæ explores on the album through their personal and innovative take on black and depressive metal. Think bands like Alghazanth, Inverna and Thy Light mixed with the more avant-sounds of Alcest and In Tormentata Quete. Tracks like “Come Pioggia…” (“Like Rain”) will slowly pull you into their dark world with a slow build up before I Locus Animæ literally lets all hell break loose. Founding members bassist Azghal and singer Mortiferum are joined by guitarists Durbuk and Aus, drummer Aumaan, keyboardist Kabaal and violinist Eris. I Locus Animæ just put on a bone-crushing show at The Speakeasy in Milan for Emergenza Festival Italia. Stay tuned to see if they’ve made it to the semi-finals. In the meantime, go check out the EP Ove il mio io Cadrà here. It’s a gloomy, soul-searching tale.
