Don't Miss 'The Miss' from The Miss

Hard-rocking Padua band The Miss mixes classic rock influences and a garage spirit into a screaming debut release

Rough, raw rock and roll just oozes out of Padua band The Miss. They first picked up a following on the local music scene back in 2011 when they started grooving to the tunes of classic bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and The Who. After a little adjustment in the percussion department, they settled on their current line-up, which is Carlo Alberto on guitar, Giorgio "Ermann" Mattarollo on bass, Stefano Morbioli on vocals and Lucio Bolzonello on the drums, and were ready to hit the studio to record their self-titled debut. The resulting album, totally self-produced and released in May of 2013, is nine songs straight of pure, classic blues-riff-rock. The influence they take from Zeppelin is undeniable, and track eight is particularly reminiscent of the modern California group The Rival Sons, but the garage quality to the sound adds credibility and soul to an otherwise widely played genre. The whole album is extremely cohesive, but just when you’re really getting into the groove, the band slips into a screaming, punk-infused cover of “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead. They say they included it on the album to show off their gritty side. But I don’t think we needed any convincing of that. The Miss is about as rock and roll as it gets. They proved that back in December when they lit the stage on fire at The Factory in Padua for the Emergenza Festival. While you’re waiting to hear if they’ve made it through to the semi-finals, be sure to check out their tunes on the band’s Facebook page. Don’t let The Miss pass you by!
