Jack Rabbit, their interview.

The dutch band is preparing to Taubertal Open Air Festival!

You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2015/2016. What made you decide to take part in it?
I think we were one of the last Dutch bands to enlist and promptly got invited to play two weeks later. Our singer participated in Emergenza somewhere in 2009 in the midst of Amsterdam Centrum.
Back then the venue was packed and filled with a good amount of tourists visiting by luck, resulting in most bands tearing the roof off along with an outraged crowd. We’ve entered to be able to play in the Melkweg, a place with great music history, not realizing we could actually win this gig.

As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?
We’re Dutch. We’re known for our soberness. Put the energy where it belongs! We just wanna perform and play for a big audience, feed off the energy from the crowd and give them one hell of a show in return. What ever happens next, happens next.
Every thing that happens to us as a band from this point on forward is a win. But we’re in for the win alright.

What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?
Feeling the great atmosphere back stage after each band got off stage, pumped with energy. There is a pure sense of freedom during those moments.

What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?
Our singer had a 15lbs weighing rabbit once.. His name was Jack... and then it died.. horribly… we honor his name.

How would you describe your music?
Our band is widely influenced by an energetic drummer who’s got a hard on for The Mars Volta and a bass player who loves to drown their songs in a funky fuzz sound.
Dynamic, fast, ball busting “ Muse-inspired” guitar riffs are topped off with a singer who brings an energetic rough squeaky edge to their performance while hopping around on stage.

Before you go on stage, do you have a ritual or a good luck charm that goes everywhere with you?
I guess we do our own thing, everything happens freely. The bass player usually needs a couple of beers to get pumped, The singer tends to fall asleep and does a powernap back stage, our gitarist is usually off until 5 minutes before the gig, leaving us wondering if he’d ever show up.. And the drummer is doing a last minute practice session…. such a professional..

What is your dream gig?
We’d love to play at the Whisky a Go Go in L.A. That place is filled with memories of some of the greatest bands in the world.

What can audiences expect from one of your live performances?
An energetic pure performance backed with a wall of sound enticing the crowd to respond..

If you could invite a band or an artist at your party, dead or alive, who would it be?
If you’d ask this question to all band members you would get 4 different answers. Luckily the other 3 aren’t here right now… My man crush goes out to Jim Morrison, he does magical things with a bonfire and knows how to entice a crowd.. “Dead cat in a top hat”

What are your short to medium term plans after the international final?
We’re in the midst of recording a few of our newer songs. We’re working on a marketing plan, trying to get the most out of social media, and basically get the fundamentals done, a website and we going to work on our first video clip, which will be worthwhile checking out since it will not be your standard rock n roll band video clip. We’re hosting a night in Oktober where we will perform the album “Californication" from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who will be playing in the Netherlands in November so we expect a good show up. Holland hosts tons of great festivals for us to play so our focus will be to enter as much as we can and play as much as we can.

What inspires you when you are composing (musical inspirations or others)?
We’re constantly using different approaches to write our songs to see what suits us best. Sometimes our guitarist or singer writes a complete song that gets ripped to pieces and rebuild later during rehearsals, or we start out with a single riff or melody and build it up from scratch together.
That sense of freedom during those early stages where a song is allowed to grow inspires us most. We’ve all agreed to not pursue a certain genre but more so work on a sound and see what happens when four complete individuals with a different musical back ground enter a rehearsal room. And so far.. it’s banging. We’ve all been in bands where writing and style is being forced and that just does not work for us.

Why do you think you deserve to win the 2016 Festival edition?
We’re eager, energetic, newly formed and as a band we’re already tight as hell. We think that shows on stage and we’re able to deliver good songs with a good performance. We have a professional no nonsense mentality and we’re able to write and produce songs pretty fast. And we like to think we’re easy to work with and fun as hell to be around ;)
