You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2015/2016. What made you decide to take part in it?
Indeed, we just wanted to play a show. Crazy how this turned out.
As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?
We’re thrilled to be approaching the world final, playing on this big stage at this amazing festival. This is gonna be an awesome journey! We believe in us as a band, but reaching the world final shows an appreciation from the audience and also the Emergenza jury, that really gives us the sort of energy we need to give everything we have for our music.
What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?
We had the chance to play at the 'Emergenza XX Eurofinale' at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt. It was a great pleasure for us to be part of this show. Especially because there were so many professionals taking part in creating the best conditions for the artists to be able to give their best. One moment that comes to our mind, thinking back to the 'Eurofinale', is our soundcheck at 8:00 in the morning. Being the first band on stage that day, the sun rises and you play the first chord. It felt like the sound echoed through the whole city. Like this guitar riff was meant to be played at a huge open-air stage, shortly after sunrise. This moment is a lasting memory that always gives us chills.
What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?
It sounded sexy to us in 2006 and it still does in 2016. There is no specific meaning but we like the paradox.
If you had to choose a famous song that represents your band...which one would it be?
Free – Mr. Big ... maybe a remix version by James Blake.

Can you tell us a funny story or anecdote about your experience on stage? And one which happened in backstage or during the preparation of a show?
One exciting moment was when we lost our man on guitar, or he lost us. Anyway. It was three days before a show in Berlin and he didn't answer the phone or any other form of communication. So our booker Steffen Wolf from Berlin proposed to help us out. Having arrived in Berlin we had four hours to rehearse. That same night we played at the magnet club. There was a huge crowd and they liked our sound. Three days after the gig, we got an email from a Berlin-based producer who invited us to his studio. In September we will finish the recording of our album with him. What began like the end of a story, turned out as the most intense experience in finding our sound and identity we have had as a band so far. Since then Wolf is our high-energy man on guitar!
How would you describe your music?
In our songwriting, we reduce the composition to its elements, only what is needed. Nothing more, nothing less. We make room for the groove, the voice and the emotion. Furthermore, we like a dry and analogue sound. Our music is a combination of straight rock riffs with contemporary sounds and grooves and high emotional vocals and lyrics on top.
Before you go on stage, do you have a ritual or a good luck charm that goes everywhere with you?
It always depends on the situation, sometimes we hug each other, sometimes we go right on stage and are excited about the moment. But at least the last hour before a show we stay close to each other. It’s like feeling the same beat even before the drummer starts the first song.
What is your dream gig?
A slot at the legendary Glastonbury Festival
What can audiences expect from one of your live performances?
That we collapse for this right moment on stage. And we want people to feel the same.

If you could invite a band or an artist at your party, dead or alive, who would it be?
We picture this scene: We would invite Jack White and after some drinks we talk to him about how to get through in the music business. Later in the evening we will have a jam session and when the sun rises we sign a contract with 'third man records'. By the way Led Zeppelin is rocking the stage and later jamming along with Jack and us. Did we mention Kurt and Amy were there? They were! But they didn't want to talk much. They just enjoyed the show.
What are your short to medium term plans after the international final?
In September we’ll take a trip to berlin and finish our debut album. We hope to find a label with this piece of music and release it soon.
What inspires you when you are composing (musical inspirations or others)?
In a way the music is inspired by our feeling as a band. It feels like that after ten years together we all know what a Lady Moustache song feels like. If we come together in the rehearsal room, we lose our individual routines and become the band. All our songs start with a jam on a few chords, and everyone gives something into it. It’s all about searching for a magic moment and if there’s been one, we all know it without even talking about it. Afterwards we rebuild the magic, find the right groove and listen to the words that Steffen improvised on the song. Some words, and basic themes from the unconscious improvised words become the centre of the lyrics. From there on the lyrics evolve in a way that Steffen is trying to make a connection. He is getting in touch with his deepest feelings, memories, thoughts and fears, by listening to these words.
What question did I forget?
If the drummer is single – No.
Why do you think you deserve to win the 2016 Festival edition?
We think we’re a hard-working, innovative & passionate band with a massive sound.
