I am going to start out by saying that I was unaware that AC/DC was Australian, Honest. I had always assumed that they formed in some garage in Michigan… but I am not sure as to why. I'm sorry if I offended any Australians but from my 24 years of life, my musical perspective is very different. Then, I was just recently informed that Goyte was Australian. I was really surprised by this, and I’m still not sure why. So then I starting looking into the other bands that I listen to and looking into what their nationalities were. Needless to say, I was once again surprised at how many bands that I listen to that are Australian. Could this mean that I was just listening to Aussie bands all along? What does this tell me? Does it tell me that Aussie music is really the best right now? I feel like I had neglected an entire nationality and gave far too much credit for my fellow Americans, at least in the electronic music scene. I must admit I am no rock expert. Most music that I personally listen to on a regular basis would be considered electronic and/or dance music. I write and blog about mostly dance music so here I am, an American talking about Australian music. So, I went down my iTunes to investigate, if you are also an American electronic music fan you will also be surprised by this.

First, one of my favorite bands, Cut Copy, was formed in 2001 in Melbourne. I have only become aware of them in the past 3 to 4 years and they are truly a staple band on my “indietronica” playlist. Secondly, would be Empire of the Sun, they aren’t active so much these days (maybe enjoying the cash, who knows) but I saw them in Chicago at the Lollapalooza music festival and they were sensational. Truly amazing. Then, the list goes on; there are still many more bands that are really great and I could go on for days about but I will just list them here; Art Vs. Science, The Avalanches, Dead Letter Circus, Jet, Stafford Brothers, Tonight Alive, and The Vines. With the risk of sounding totally naïve or even getting some “silly mail” like:“ how could you not know Jet was Australian you bloody yank??....”I give my most sincere apologies and raise the Australian flag in your honor. In your music scene's honor. Truly spectacular.

Australia has really brought us some fantastic music and I have just learned to never underrate them again and I am really excited for this next round of Emergenza Festival to start up this season in Australia so I can see what the country has to offer!

Bring it on Aussie!.....This American girl wants more music!
