SEMIFINALS IN THE BIG D!
A team of Clydesdales couldn’t have stopped the power of the music this weekend! We saw tons of different genres, spanning more influences than you can imagine. Sit back, relax, and grab that scroll wheel...
Ascending Legacy set the pace with a positive pop-punk mixed with rock sound that saw a great amount of stage presence and energy. Although young’ins, they definitely are on the right track. Lots of potential!
The Inspirado took over the controls next, and rocked the house with a strong set of original rock. The vocals were great and they definitely brought a supportive crowd.
Captain Gallagher & The Savvy Travelers was next up to rock the house, and they did it with a trippy, Stone Roses remix type of feel. Each song was its own adventure with the Captain and his crew.
The mighty Is... launched into a great three-piece rock sound with some great vocals. Despite breaking a bass string (hands o’ steel), they rocked the house and revitalized the crowd at Curtain Club.
The last band was A Moment of Clarity, who came with an intense sound of modern rock done right. The guitars and bass were solid, and the energy was unstoppable. The lead vocals were accented by some outstanding work from flanking guitarists, and the drummer burned up the kit!
Friday’s show fired off top notch with the alluring sounds of Coalition. This funk and jazz infused style was truly unique on the night. The mix of keys, guitar, bass and drums took us on a non-stop ride through ecstatic highs and searing lows, keeping the crowd at Curtain Club thoroughly thrilled!
The Justin Ross Band took the stage second in this night of seven bands, and put on an incredible show! The vocals were strong and crisp, and felt like they came from a soul representative of the heart of American Rock. This three-piece comes with a sound so full it almost overwhelms you, but still leaves you wanting for more.
Sleepless Ruth laid out a solid rockin’ set with outstanding female lead vocals. This sinister sound had the stuff, and the crowd at Curtain reacted accordingly. Great original band and you better go check them out today!
Quiver put goose bumps on the skin and chills down the back with their own unique blend of acoustic rock, featuring a very talented violinist, pure lead vocals and a great rhythm section. The set was great, despite losing a string on the guitar to pure energy... Outstanding job!
A Moment of Clarity stepped up next, and re-energized the crowd. The stage presence was stellar, and the music was exciting! The synth work was really cool, and rounded out their modern rock sound.
The pop punk sound of Xtra-Medium was next to rock the huge crowd at Curtain Club, and they did not disappoint. This three piece held the crowd in the palm of their hand for twenty-five minutes, lighting a fire that just wouldn’t go out!
Nu Breed closed the night in style, with a funky, soulful hip-hop mix that tantalized the crowd. With vocals reminiscent of Jill Scott and a touch of Lauryn Hill, this band was the perfect way to wrap up an incredible night of talented musicians at the Curtain Club!
The closing night of the weekend, Saturday saw seven bands take the stage. There was a strong early crowd at the Curtain Club and they were quickly wowed by Eclectic Overdrive. This acoustic set took us high and low, and we found what we were looking for: great Americana rock! The set was full of surprises, and the crowd at Curtain loved it! The skills of these musicians are great.
The Embassy took the stage next, rocking out with some modern hardcore rock. The stage presence was great, and the music was passionate. You can definitely see it in this band. They energized everyone, and put on a great show!
We trekked through indie-acoustic-funk land with The Hillary Early Band, and we got worn out! T
