VANCOUVER SEMIS AT THE RED ROOM
Thursday, May 3rd
The Pirates started the weekend: an Indie-Alt band with some pretty cool riffs and hooks. Unique vocals that really float on top of the music. These guys need more stage presence, but have some potential.
Then took the stage Freebase, a hard-rock band with a “Godsmack” sound. Good energy and big vocals.
The Twitch, next up, was an older band that has a polished sound and pretty good energy.
Slitsoul was next on stage: an 80’s metal band, full of long hair, fast riffs and interesting band names (Nicky Decapitation, Jimmy Hatred, Mr. Slit and Rye-n-Gin).
Painted Cities played next: clever band name and really interesting Indie sound. They performed a refreshing sound, good vocals, good bass player. They need a little more energy and motivation but definitely the best band of the night.
Crime Think was an Indie band that needs to mature musically.
Cutthroat closed the night: a Ska/Punk band that is solid across the board. Good sound and good energy for an older band.
Saturday, May 5th
Firebrand opened the night: grunge-rock sound, pretty good music that can reach a lot of people, strong vocals, ok stage presence and ok dynamics.
Red Headed Step Child played next: good front man really drives the band.
The Chase took the stage next: very well rounded, mainstream sound, more energy needed but the band has the most potential to grow and get exposure.
Blind Tricks was next on stage. Very refreshing, Indie/Folk/Country band, strong at all parts, good dynamics, good lead guitar and bass players.
The Badd Habits was a good band, good look, good music, good talent, very solid overall, good lead guitar work.
Kostaman finished up the weekend. Most entertaining band all weekend. Great reggae-jam band, great musically, great vocally, great instincts on stage, great interaction with the crowd. Best band to see live.
