OFF THE HOOK!

This past weekend the Emergenza International Music festival held another round of eliminatory shows at Brooklyn’s finest venue, The Hook. Nestled deep within the Red Hook district of Brooklyn, the Hook hosts a plethora of national acts and has a sound system that will blow any concert lover away. With six acts on a Saturday night the shows proved to be diverse, original and electrifying. The Sarkies kicked off the evening with a great performance! With a female bass player that thumped and excellent lead vocals these guys were quite impressive. Dudes of Doom came out with a vibe that had mother’s guarding their infants. Each song had a story and songs like “Dead Blondes Have No Fun” had the audience begging for more. The Midas Touch, a group of youngsters rocked the house as they stormed the stage with a set that resembled The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Great guitar licks, funky bass lines and a drummer holding it all together made for an energetic set. Lesser Being was everything but boring. The ripped through their metal set with style as the drummer mercilessly beat down the bass drum to a pulp. Snug, then stepped up to a packed audience and played a pure original set that incorporated nice guitar rifts, great lead vocals and seamless bass lines. Roots Rock Rebel closed out this week’s Emergenza showcase with a very tight rock set. These professional players had a knack for harmonies, strong lyrics and were technically proficient. What a way to end a spectacular evening! When all was said and done Saturday’s Emergenza shows were a success. The Hook proved once again to be an excellent stomping ground for bands to network, broaden their fan base and kick it down to some original and diverse music. Keep posted at Emergenza Magazine for details on upcoming shows, including next weekend’s elimination rounds at The Hook in Brooklyn, NY.
