Birmingham blasts off the 2007 Emergenza Season
The Magic City kicks off at the High Note
This past weekend the Emergenza 2007 season made its way through Birmingham with a plethora of styles of music ranging from acoustic-rock, to country-rock to heavy-metal. The High Note, Birmingham’s favorite rock venue, welcomed Emergenza back for the second year with open arms.
Thursday, January 11th
Thursday night’s shows were filled with a very diverse range of musical styles.
3 Shades of Gravy opened the weekend with a very complex acoustic set complete with percussion, interweaving vocals and sweet guitar solos.
Enveneer, straight out of Birmingham, followed with a very tight sound, and nice compositions.
A Martyr’s Last Words then took the stage with a very high-energy stage presence and an excellent mix of screaming and singing.
Riker Out, formerly known as Three Day Pass, took the stage with awesome teases, great drums and excellent guitar rifts.
Crowe followed with a heart-felt acoustic driven set that had the audience in a trance.
Trial By Jury, which included the only female drummer of the weekend, stepped up and threw some blues at the crowd who was astounded as the group wove in and out of guitar solos.
Unveil then changed things up a bit with a progressive metal set that incorporated great vocals and excellent compositions.
Within Reason closed out Thursday evening’s Emergenza event with a very dynamic and vocally pleasant set.
Friday, January 12th
All American Tragedy kicked off Friday’s shows with a rockin’ opener, tight bass licks and strong vocals.
The Spanish ska band Skazes followed with a very fun set. They utilized unique drumbeats and a saxophone to spice up the evening with a little diversity.
Winter’s Haven then took the stage and had some awesome guitar solos along with a great stage presence.
Chris Scott, the only country-rock band of the weekend followed with a very tight set that had harmonies, great lyrics and was perfect for a little change of pace. Auction 45, a good ole’ southern rock type band, stormed the stage and had a very strong set that included drum solos and an improv session that had the place rockin! Chalk was the talk of the evening as they not only packed the venue, but also had excellent compositions. They had great lead vocals and a progressive metal sound that works.
Seven Letter Angel closed out Friday’s show with a very strong set. The 16 year-old drummer blew the audience away as the music left the venue in a buzz.
Saturday, January 13th
Knova Jones brought Saturday’s show to the forefront as they blasted through their set complete with a great rhythm section and excellent finger tapping by the lead guitarist.
Deserata was up next with a great instrumental opener, and a nice use of distortion. Fading Out followed with excellent vocals and a grasp on how a rock set should be.
Mark of Heritage, formerly known as Shattered Harvest, had a great front man, who was so captured by the performance that he fell off stage at one point, and got right back up there to finish out the set!
Beyond Me followed with yet another excellent stage presence and an excellent image. The Vic Trip Group changed the mood a bit with an acoustic set that incorporated cello, keys and a song about being abducted by Martians!
Refuse the Fall had a great interaction with the audience and a very tight set that included a very strong rhythm section.
Dilemma Season, a very well accomplished instrumental group, amazed the audience with their six string bass, astounding guitar solos and an awesome drummer. Troubled Minds closed out the weekend with an excellent set. They had the audience on their toes as they belted out fabulous lyrics and great guitar solos.
