Three nights, more than 20 bands, big crowds:

here’s what happened on the first 2007 Emergenza weekend in NYC

Thursday, January 4th The weekend at „The Bitter End”, Manhattan started with hip hop – H-Cide And The Movement had professional sound, two very good MC''s and female vocalist. It was a great performance and the audience had a lot of fun. There was a radical change of mood with the next band coming up. Egokill, a band of young musicians, presented energetic and efficient metal music. We could listen some complicated arrangements, screaming vocals and noticeable improvement since the first round. The next band, Identity, took us back to early 90''s with their grunge, Alice In Chains-like sound. They performed a bunch of short, raw and simple rock songs. Good performance and great applause from the audience. Mark Shine and his band came up next. That was an excellent show: great musicians, great compositions – everything in its right place. They played a few acoustic rock-reggae songs, perfectly arranged, performed and sung by the leader, Mark. The following one, LC Little Corey, was a loud, efficient and energetic hard-rock band. At the end of the last song they started a long improvised part and they literally couldn''t finish. The audience loved them and gave them a great support during their set. That wasn''t the end of good energy that night. Outsly, the group of young guys playing funky-rock, gave a great show. Their arrangements were melodic, perfectly performed and complemented with the sound of saxophone. They got a great applause and they deserved it. King B. & Queen B. was not just a blues-rock band as they describe their style. First of all they had a great bass guitar player, young Tal Wilkenfeld. The other amazing thing was their crazy show, Queen B. was changing her costumes and King B. played a few long but delicious blues guitar solos. Friday, January 5th At the beginning of a second night we could listen to acoustic rock sounds of Adam Day Howard. They played a few simple, melodic and very well arranged tunes. The next show of Byrds On A Wyre was more energetic and woke up spectators who started filling up the club. A few songs were really interesting, the lead vocalist and the rest of the band had a great fun and interacted with the audience building a good atmosphere. The following group of very young musicians, A Few Too Many, presented a bunch of melodic and freshly sounding tunes. They used keyboards and a violin to enrich the sound. They are young but still getting better and the audience love them. Kim Louie came up next and as usual presented smooth and delicate songs. They could use a piano at The Bitter End so their sound was full and really charming. She sang songs both in English and French and got a great applause. Mystic Union changed the mood radically. They started with Tool-like intro and then continued with loud, efficient and energetic progressive metal show. The bassist played also percussion instruments so there was something more than just „heavy-metal”. They deserved a great applause they got. The following band, Nineveh Road, was professional, great sounding and entertaining. The group of excellent musicians performed a bunch of carefully arranged songs with perfect vocals and harmonies. There''s nothing more to say – they did a great job. The next show was full of young energy and very entertaining too. Mayorwest is a good, young band, playing alternative rock. They performed a few fast, melodic songs: their stage presence was great! The audience gathered at the club was really pleased and didn''t want to let them finish. Semblance Of A Soul continued with the same amount of energy but with different style. That heavy metal band sounded well and presented a few nice compositions. They played one Metallica cover which caused a big noise in the audience after their show. The Evan Kremin Band was the last act that night and<
