A first-class Sunday in Manhattan

Another long night with Emergenza Festival

Sunday, December 3rd After more than two weeks we came back to The Hook just for Sunday night to watch seven bands perfoming in Manhattan part of Emergenza. The show started with energetic, simple but very professional sounds generated by The Chilling Details. They played a bunch of short, melodic and really well sounding songs, just perfect for a music festival. That was a good introduction to the whole night. Kritical Mass, three 14 years old guys, performed a few rock and roll songs including one Van Halen cover starting with complicated guitar solo. They had a great support from the audience and it was obvious that they felt very well on the stage. Young but not afraid or shy in front of people. Love Was Liam came up next starting with an acoustic song played and sung by a band leader, Liam. Their show was more quiet and alternative, probably even too quiet for some people. The vocalist was the person who convinced the small group of spectators to make a noise and cheer these young musicians. When we saw the next band we thought The Beatles came back to participate in Emergenza (all the guys wearing suits). But when we heard the first songs we raelized that was a mistake. The music of Almost There was a mix of 60''s and contemporary rock and roll. Three vocals, interesting arrangements and harmonies made up consistent show. Before We Fade was a metal/hardcore band with screaming vocals and aggresive guitar sound. Their show was energetic, loud and woke up some people sitting at the bar. All the songs had complicated arrangements, changing tempos and crazy guitar riffs. Two guitar players were all over the stage and in front of it interacting with the audience. That wasn''t the end of good fun that night. Mattress Armada started their set with a short speech trying to encourage people to have fun. And it apparently worked – almost everyone listening to that band was excited. They performed songs that were very melodic, consistent and short so nobody could get bored. The last group, The Kathouse Rhythm, brought in a different mood. The musicians played melodic, subtle and interesting rock compositions. The female leading vocalist with a very nice voice, playing acoustic guitar was trying to make people relaxed. The guitar solos were deliberate and well arranged without showing off. That was a perfect ending of the Sunday night at The Hook.
