For Two Nights The West Coast Sound Tsunami Crashes Through SF

Another brilliant weekend at the Rockit Room

Friday, November 10th All electro genres were alive and well at SF’s fabulous rock emporium, the Rockit Room, for Emergenza’s first round continuation last Friday night. Dirty Orange Sun, born just three months ago, opened their set with a sonic punch by their powerful lead voice, yet stirred souls with another more mellow number from their nu-grunge originals CD. Primates meet rock’n roll (not quite) with Gorilla Math. Asserting its flamboyant stage presence and heavy hitting drums, this band sustained funk rhythms cast in an aggressive rock style. Electro-rockers, Ruby Sparking Chambers, covered the Cars hit, ”You’re All I’ve Got Tonight”, using very cool harmonies produced by the band’s two singers/guitarists and a drum machine. Overide featured dual lead vocalists breaking their new song, “Somethin’ To Talk About”, out of the box, receiving an instant approval rating from the audience. Hot Farm closed it’s American rock set with an appearance by a Rick James look-alike, and Goat Milk’s varied instrumentals were dynamic. Saturday, November 11th On Saturday night, Muttz Nuttz a River Reggae band, Mesmerized the audience with its powerful reggae rhythms and tight vocals. Fringe, a passionate rock‘n’roll band, has been together for nine years, and has four independent CD releases out. These guys will be around for some time. Benno and the Impostafarians from Sacramento, California, was the second reggae band of the evening, and the only one to use a harmonica. High Fly, a female fronted progressive/alternative rock band from San Francisco played a very powerful and passionate performance Saturday night. Crimson Cloud from San Jose, California, brought to the stage a new hybrid form of rock music: a blend of funk, jazz, blues and soul. Does anyone know how a gold top Les Paul sounds when being played by a shredder? We found out. Stitchcraft created a mello vibe toward the end of the night with its two female vocalists, mandolin, guitar, keyboard and violin. Roase is an alternative rock band from San Francisco that has a bi-coastal influence of Northern California and New York, and had tone, tone and more tone. I-Six is a metal band from San Jose, California, deserving of a few mentionables for their versatility and potential. These guys were shredders. During their set they demonstrated this by lightning fast riffs contrasted by mellow, passionate intros. The Emergenza International Music Festival continues to attract a wide variety of new and established bands from all over Northern California, providing a unique environment for growth and development.
