The band had originally been the bastard brainchild of Vandrew Skelton, whose love for punk music of all descriptions laid the foundations for the band's signature sound. Sam Onnes and Fonz Jaques formed the twin guitar assault, Alex Rossiter joined a few weeks later as the smartass bassist (whose 40oz record still stands at Saffron Street), and two months later the band was lucky enough to be joined by Harley McVay, who can only be described as a walking drum battery. Together the five original members of Trolleyed put together a set of blistering original music with an ambition to bring punk rock back to the ears of the New Zealand public.
Sadly, this version of the band only ever played two gigs, and both were cut short. The year 2006 brought more drama than success to the band, and saw the band lose Vandrew and Harley as disagreements mounted. The band broke up and reformed several times, and countless drummers were trialled and rejected, but all the while Sam, Fonz and Alex soldiered on in trying to write new and exciting material.
In mid-2007, Trolleyed was swiftly revived with the arrival of new drummer Kelly Gorman, who upon experimentation has been found to have powers that extend from his sizeable tattoos that translate into him having the drumming power of a man with three arms. With Kelly on board, the band quickly rip-roared into writing new material, cranking out some of their biggest and best songs to date. Alex has since taken over the vocal duties for the time being, and in mid-2008 the band began actively gigging and recording its first self-titled EP.
With the year 2008 now just a distant memory, 2009 is the year Trolleyed intends to leave its skidmark on the face of New Zealand music. With a sound that is best described as "Pennywise meets Green Day meets Guns-N-Roses with smatterings of Maximum the Hormone, Sublime, Rancid and The Darkness thrown in, all on a crispy base of we-don't-give-a-f*ck", Trolleyed are more fun for your brain than a hash cookie. Really. Coming to a stage near you.
