With the line up complete when Pete Cheevers was added as guitarist Empire Saints then started to rehearse the material with more music and songs starting to take shape also.
Fiachra: 'ideas just keep coming and all of us were really into what was happening. It was very important that if all four of us were not feeling it, then we moved on to something else. It was slow and painful sometimes but we feel we got the best out of ourselves by being that hard on ourselves'.
Demos of 18 songs were recorded by the band themselves and after hearing the tracks a very excited and excellent Meteor award winning Dublin Producer Gareth Mannix recorded 3 tracks 'The Drowning', 'Eventually' and 'Float on' in August '09 at both Gareth’s house and Sun studios. The resulting recordings really capture the performance and energy of the band.
Empire Saints have headlined gigs in some very prestigious venues even at this short time in their career including the Sugar Club and Whelans in Dublin and The Hope and Anchor in London.
Empire Saints were also shortlisted in Hotpress “London Calling” competition with the top prize of playing in front of 20,000 people in Trafalgar Square at the St. Patricks festival on Sunday 14th March. The band were selected because of the video for “Float On”, which has been selected for the 2010 BORNSHORTS Film festival in Denmark in August 2010.
Most recently the band were selected by a panel of judges including the band members of Snow Patrol, Niall Stokes of Hotpress, Director of Talent MTV Europe Matt Cook, MCD booker Niall Morris, David Harris of Universal Music, Mark Kavanagh the music editor of The Star and Alan Steele the Arthurs day talent booker to go on to the final four bands of Guinness our Thursdays on 9th September in Belfast and as a result played with David Gray and The Magic Numbers in Galway on 23rd September as part of the Arthurs day celebrations .
All this and with a single release “Mazy Haze” by Universal Music in November 2010 with a chart position of 15 things are looking bright for this four piece indie band that have been described by Hotpress as “Tight confident gothic slightly bombastic indie rock”
