Hailing from Baltimore, MD, To a Science is a four-piece “rock” band that transcends the definition of what “rock” music is or should be. In a time where the music industry seems to be led by temporary genres and fads, these four innovative musicians are creating songs that offer a little more.
The members of To a Science have musical roots not only in rock and other forms of popular music, but also in jazz, classical, and other various styles that may seem unconventional for modern rock. However, the prominent aspect of their songs which ties them to a listening audience of today, is the ability to blend their diverse range of influences into radio-friendly compositions.
Guitarist Drew Decaro and bassist Boyitz Long (both formerly of the Baltimore/Annapolis-based band Ex-Rate) provide an instrumental flourish of musicality, using jazz-based ideas in the context of appealing rock songwriting. Vocally, singer/guitarist Dave Nenner (formerly of the Baltimore-based band Cylix) writes powerful melodies with meaningful, yet cryptically personal lyrics. He collaborates with Boyitz and Decaro to construct intense vocal harmonies as well. To hold everything together with an unmatched percussive energy, To a Science drummer Mike Mullins incorporates rhythms into the music that span everywhere from go-go to drum & bass, and from metal to hip-hop. Despite this almost overbearing variety of influences, the band’s collection of songs stays stylistically focused, yet still quite diverse in a detailed sort of way.
All descriptions aside, To a Science simply makes music from the heart, for the people. Their live show is full of energy, and they plan on continually touring as long as it takes to be heard on the largest scale possible.
