It all began in South Africa: the brothers Al (git) and Andy (dr) were introduced to Björn (git) in Johannesburg in the early 90’s and, along with two of Björn’s schoolmates, founded a cover band which would provide the neighbourhood with an unsolicited dose of thrash metal music from their garage every Friday after school.
After graduating from high school in 1993, Björn departed for Hamburg, Germany, to pursue his further education. This marked the end of the road for the band… or so they thought - unbeknownst to the three of them at the time, Al and Andy would also relocate to northern Germany just a year later, where their father had been appointed to a new post. Thus the musical ambitions were rekindled once more, but this time with self composed songs.
After having auditioned several contenders for the positions of vocals and bass guitar, Kim (voc) and Gordon (bass) eventually joined the band in 1997, at the time also playing in the black metal outfits "Mephistopheles" and "The Prophecy". This marked the inception of Falling Grace, initially starting out in the "melodic doom/death" bracket of musical genres.
The group disbanded after some years of playing the national club scene in Germany as it was time for the band members to shift their focus toward family planning and furthering their careers. However, this would turn out to be a temporary hiatus - albeit a rather lengthy one - as the band decided in 2014 to dust off their instruments and get back together again.
Falling Grace’s musical style has evolved to what one might label as "doom rock", i.e. heavy old school rock 'n' roll riffs paired with melancholically growled vocals.
Björn Laubscher 22 снежня 2015 01:39Es begann in Südafrika: in Johannesburg anfang der 90’er Jahre lernten die Brüder Al (Gitarre) und Andy (Drums) Björn (Gitarre) kennen und gründeten zusammen mit zwei weiteren Freunden eine Coverband, die von der elterlichen Garage aus freitags nach der Schule die Nachbarschaft mit Thrash Metal versorgte.
Nach seinem Schulabschluß in 1993 verließ Björn Südafrika, um in Hamburg seine Ausbildung zu machen - somit war erstmal Schluß mit der Musik; was die Drei zu dem Zeitpunkt aber noch nicht wussten, war daß Al und Andy nur ein Jahr später mit ihren Eltern auch nach Deutschland umsiedeln würden, und zwar ebenfalls in das Einzugsgebiet um Hamburg! Somit wurden die musikalischen Ambitionen erneut aufgegriffen, diesmal jedoch mit eigenem Songmaterial.
Zunächst galt es, die Vakanzen für Gesang und Bass zu besetzen, und nach mehreren Bewerbern stiessen dann in 1997 schließlich Kim und Gordon, die gemeinsam auch in den Black Metal Bands "Mephistopheles" und "The Prophecy" spielten, als permanente Mitglieder zu Falling Grace, dessen Musik sich fortan im Bereich "melodic doom/death" ansiedelte.
Auf dem Höhepunkt ihres Bestehens und nach diversen bundesweiten Club-Gigs löste sich die Band auf, und die Mitglieder widmeten sich fortan der beruflichen Karriere und Familienplanung. Dies sollte sich jedoch lediglich als kreative Pause erweisen, denn Ende 2014 wollten es Jungs nochmal wissen und bauten kurzerhand bei Björn den Keller zum Proberaum um.
Heute lässt sich der Musikstil von Falling Grace eher als "doom rock" bezeichnen, also einem Mix aus hartem Rock ’n Roll und melancholisch dargebotenem Growl-Gesang.
