With its origins reaching back into the musicians’ high school years, What It’s Worth is a band which, in its current formation came to be less then a year ago. The fact that the lead singer and guitarist were friends from their youth certainly has helped cement the band’s unison. Joined by a bassist and drummer the two have formed this band with visions of themselves on international radio stations and stages. If nothing else, they have definitely chosen the right kind of genre. The rock/pop combination they play has already proven to be a recipe for success for many bands whom they draw on for inspiration.
One thing sets this band aside from the well known ensembles of similar genre – they have a female as their vocal lead… it’s kinda like if Avril Lavigne stepped in for Deryck Whibley as lead vocal in Sum 41 (wait… a version of this happened in real life didn’t it?!?!). This is bound to be a successful recipe – the music works already and having a female front & centre keeps these guys from being categorized as yet another variation of a boy band. And let’s face it, this girl can sing. Starting from her vocal entrance on their debut single Bulletproof Vest through her more powerful performance on the chorus, she shows us what she’s made of.
In the short time the band has been together they’ve not only managed to put out a single song, but an EP as well. The album, named Catalyst is available for purchase on iTunes and you can listen to a couple of their songs via one of their online band profiles. Offering music that is appealing to a wide audience and a live performance that is boundlessly engaging, What it’s Worth seems to have the path to success paved ahead of them. They are working hard at getting their band seen, with a number of shows just in the months of June & July, not the least of which will be their July 7th performance at the Lair @ Metro with Emergenza – the international music Festival for up & coming bands.
