Celeste Kate
Is ready for 24 Moons....
When did you start writing and performing music?
I started writing songs when i was in my early teens but i started to take it more seriously in my early twenties. I started performing my music around Melbourne and Bendigo when i moved to Melbourne at the end of 2009.
Just how difficult was it coming up with an artist name that you liked?
It wasn't too difficult for me. I go by my first and second given names rather than my first and surname. I like that i was given the name Kate as my second name. There are a lot of genious singer/songwriters called Kate.
What are your musical influences?
Kate Bush is a huge musical influence of mine. She inspires me both lyrically and musically and i love how unique she was back in her day. I am also inspired by other female singer/songwriters such as Kate Miller Heidke, Tori Amos, Katie Noonan and Sarah McLachlan.
If you weren't playing the instrument you currently play, what would you love to play instead?
I've always wanted to learn the violin. I love the sound of it. I love the strings in general. My music is designed for string in the arrangements.
Do you sing about personal experiences in your songs? How do you feel exposing your heart on stage?
I do sing about personal experiences. I find it's always been what has driven me to create in the first place. Whether it be myself experiencing something or someone close to me experiencing something and me telling the story as the outsider looking in. I have written the occasional song about an imaginary circumstance, although i am more prone to writing about what i experience. I aim to further develop writing from imagining the moment rather than only writing from having experienced the moment.
What can the audience expect to hear from you at 24 moons on Wednesday?
I'll be playing a couple of song from my EP "I've Been Waitin". They will be the stripped back versions, just piano, bass and vocals. I'll also be playing a couple of new songs, one which i co-wrote with my friend Nicholas Duhigg who writes adult fiction novels. This song entitled "Stop Apologising" will feature Jarrad Cammilleri on the Acoustic guitar.
Any secrets about you? Something that no one knows?
Haha. The only secret i am willing to reveal (to those that don't already know) is that I am a huge fan of fine China. I collect teapots, cups and saucers. Yes, just like grandmas do!
