And so to our second interview from bands who are playing the 7th of April at The Evelyn hotel.
Arcade Road are lippy, confident and at the same time clever enough to give the right answers. Unlike other bands who give the "one liners" these boys like to elaborate on the topics and give honest answers. We also find out what their music scene is really like.
WHAT SORT OF SOUND CAN THE PUBLIC EXPECT FROM YOU AT THE EVELYN?
1. The public should definitely be ready for some head banging tracks. We don't like to put ourselves in a box, that is to say we like having a wide variety of styles, but if we had to generalize it, it'd be somewhere along the lines of surf/skate rock. Some of our tracks are chilled and some are wild, so there's totally something for everyone.
HOW DID YOU ALL MEET & HOW LONG HAS THE BAND BEING TOGETHER?
We all pretty much met through an event management company three of us (Ethan, Jarrad and Bailey) are apart of called Impakt Productions, and Ethan and Savva go to school together. The band really hasn't been around all that long, only since January 2016, so we're quite new to playing together but we all have experience in other bands.
THE NAME: WHY ARCADE ROAD? WHO CHOSE IT? REALLY GUYS….NO LIES ALLOWED OK? ;)
The name literally came from us just trying to shit out something that we could put on flyers or releases etc. but I think Savva was the one who came up with it. It doesn't have a secret meaning or anything, we just thought it sounded cool
DISCUSS YOUR LOCAL ORIGINAL MUSIC SCENE. HEALTHY? SAD? ARE YOU OPTIMISTIC?
In fairness, we call kind of come from different music scenes. Ethan and Savva mostly attended hardcore shows, whereas Jarrad went to a lot of local surf or stoner bands' shows. The Melbourne music scene still thrives depending on genre. Hardcore shows have been getting smaller and smaller, and most local surf acts are struggling for gigs, but a lot of people are still following these bands and listening to them and thats what matters.
IF YOU CAUGHT YOUR BEST FRIEND’S LITTLE BROTHER LISTENING TO REALLY CRAP DANCE MUSIC, WOULD YOU:
A) TIE HIM UP AND FORCE HIM TO LISTEN TO YOUR FAVOURITE BAND
B) LET HIM BE
C) TELL HIM TO PICK UP AN INSTRUMENT
In my opinion it's very important that kids find their own way in music. However, guidance is always helpful and often very necessary. Therefore I reckon I'd go with "tell him to pick up an instrument". Forcing the kid won't work and most dance music is still shit.
…...AND FINALLY, IF YOU'D WON EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WENT TO GERMANY TO PLAY THE HUGE STAGE AND COULD ONLY TAKE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING WITH YOU WHAT WOULD IT BE?
A) A REALLY GOOD CAMERA
B) EXTRA MONEY
C) GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIEND
Ethan: Girlfriend
Jarrad: Money
Savva: Money
Bailey: A really good camera
So there you have it. The four piece is spot on. Great answers and self confidence.
Catch them at The Evelyn hotel on the 7th of April!
