The
second Sydney gig for the season (but the first of the year) has just finished and here's a few
interesting things to say about the bands we saw on stage. Wednesday
the 3rd of February was an eclectic evening, showcasing
some of the best talent from Sydney. Bands from both north and south of the city proved that musical strength and great tunes are out there.
The Return of Cool
Never was a project's name so fitting. Bradley Owens, solo classical nylon string guitar playing pop love ballads singer playing his great songs. Well arranged pop tunes. nice voice and guitar combination. A brilliant set played with much passion and soul. The public did appreciate as he won many new fans on the evening. He's one to watch
Sun
of Cascadia
These
guys have played with us before making it to the final as we told you
in the “5 questions” piece we write about the bands. This is a
new line up with only two original members. Very professional and
very polished sound. A rock to prog rock style. Amazing singer with a
great voice and range. This guy is simply a phenomenal singer. The band is tight and the skills are there. They put on an incredible show. Somebody will hear their songs and eventually
snatch them...Well worth the price of the ticket!
Baylaw
Duo,
a guy and a girl. Boyfriend-girlfriend combination. She sings he
plays guitar and sings a bit. Songs were very good. A bit rough
around the edges and that is really the beauty of it. They are pure.
A few more practices and they should be ready or the world. Need to
work on some stage craft and stage presence and energy to win over
new fans, however, their natural approach made them interesting. They
did have a good vibe about them though and were very well dressed
suiting their style. Visual impact was good. As we said, need to work
on it a bit and they should be brilliant.
Possibility of Two
Honest rockers who wore their hearts on their sleeves and gave it their all. This is what you get when rock musicians step on stage: Honesty. Songs were good, main lead singer is a guy who plays guitar but also the other guitarist who is a girl sung a song or two she had a nice vocal. Together, the two made the band somewhat interesting. The drummer was a stand out of the band and one of the best of the night....kids, if you need drum lessons see the drummer from P.O.T.
Swamp
to Sahara
Young
band. Fresh. A real surprise. Two girls up front doing lead vocals,
one sings mains and is very sassy while the other singer plays
electric guitar.....and we must stress: plays guitar with a great
feel. Both have amazing voices. Lead guitarist is a guy who simply
rips. The guy is bloody good. The rhythm section is very, very solid.
They play their own style of indie, pop rock, disco dance type music
and it is very enjoyable to listen. Varying tempos in songs and
interesting arrangements are fresh. Very catchy choruses and well
formulated songs. The crowd was dancing and singing along the whole
set! Proof that when you have good songs half your job is done! Very
impressive.
Isolator
Older
experienced rockers here. Rock to heavy style. Lots of different
sounds going on but they know what they are doing very well and
deliver a very tight and polished set. The guitar tone was simply
perfect. Interesting arrangements and good presence plus energy.
Experience, experience, experience..... Won many new fans.
So there you go music fans...this was only the second gig for the season and we have plenty more to come Australia! Watch out for our Melbourne gigs in a couple of weeks. For now we say: Keep on rocking....and of course: support your local bands!
